About
I have been involved in academia since 1980, when, after graduating from the Department of Arabic Studies at the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Yerevan State University, I was admitted to the postgraduate program in Arabic Philology at the Institute of Asian and African Studies, Moscow M.V. Lomonosov State University, where I defended my dissertation in 1984.
Since 1984, I have been teaching at the Department of Arabic and Turkish Philology (since 1991, the Department of Arabic Studies) of Yerevan State University. From 1992 to 2008, I was the head of the Department of Arabic Studies.
From 2006 to 2008, I simultaneously headed the Department of University Education Development.
From 2009 to 2019, I also taught at the Department of Education Management and Planning of V. Brusov Linguistic University, and from 2010 to 2018, I headed the University Center for Continuing Education.
From 2008 to 2021, I was a member of the expert group on Higher Education Reform by the National Erasmus+ Office in Armenia and the Ministry of Education and Science. From 2013 to 2019, I served as the coordinator of the group's activities.
Since 2014, I have been elected twice as the chairman of the Armenian League. From 2018 to 2021, I worked as an advisor to the Minister of Education and Science (since 2019 – the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports).
From 2021 to 2024, I worked at the State Economic University of Armenia as the chief advisor to the rector, and from 2022 to 2024, I also coordinated the programs for the training of scientific and educational staff at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia.
Currently, I teach courses related to the Arabic language and linguistics at Yerevan State University and the Russian–Armenian University.
Research interests: General and Arabic linguistics, Metric system of Arabic poetry.
