Students of the MA in Indology will become proficient in independent academic work as well as the identification and solution of academic problems.
This course of study, will provide deeper knowledge of important individual aspects of Indian religions in their historical, societal, cultural and literary contexts. Detailed knowledge will be added regarding Hindu and Buddhist traditions and the intellectual history of India. Students will also gain a comprehensive overview of certain areas of the performing and visual arts as well as Indian literature. Due to an increase in their acquired knowledge of Sanskrit or Hindi, MA students will also become proficient in work on and with difficult primary texts.
Students acquire the skills to evaluate academic results and solutions from the subject area, as well as the ability to engage in independent academic work and to apply their competency to the analysis of Indologic research. Graduates of the Master’s Degree possess the practical qualification for an academic job in the area of Indology (teaching, research, etc.).
