The Master’s programme in Oriental Studies at RAU offers an outstanding qualification. You will develop expertise in the history, language and culture of Asian societies, or contemporary developments in the world’s most dynamic and fastest-growing region.
At RAU you can tailor your MA  Oriental Studies with a specialisation that reflects your area of interest. Different specialisations cater for students with or without proficiency in one or more Oriental languages, and range two years in duration. This structure allows us to accommodate students with diverse undergraduate backgrounds, objectives and expectations.
The precise content of the course followed by you is fixed by your supervisor in consultation with yourself in order to provide the most useful training. The course content is in each case designed to advance your progress towards a research degree after the completion of the MA. You may therefore be required by the supervisor, under the direction of the Faculty Board, to attend lecture courses, seminars, language classes and tutorials, and also to write more extended pieces of written work.
As a student in this programme you will learn to analyse complex issues related to social, cultural, political and economic developments in the Middle East, Near East Central Asia, Caucasus, and acquire the capacity to analyse their causes and interrelations, and to propose possible solutions, as well as identify future trends and developments; gain the ability to work in an interdisciplinary setting and in a multicultural international environment; learn to plan and use appropriate methods, undertake advanced tasks within predetermined time frames and so contribute to the formation of knowledge and evaluation.
​Graduates of the MA Programme in Oriental Studies have a number of career opportunities available to them after graduation. Moreover, many graduates continue to doctoral studies at universities throughout Europe and beyond.
